Join our team as a Kitchen Assistant/Cook in our Residential Care Home, where you will play a crucial role in providing nutritious and delicious meals to our service users. As a Kitchen Assistant/Cook, you will be responsible for preparing menus, ordering supplies, and ensuring the smooth operation of our catering service.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Service Users and the manager to design menus that align with individual preferences, special dietary requirements, and nutritional needs.
  • Prepare and oversee the creation of meals, ensuring excellent taste, presentation, and adherence to hygiene standards.
  • Take full responsibility for ordering supplies and maintaining cost control measures to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Implement and manage an advanced stock control system to effectively oversee kitchen inventory.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment with precision and care, adhering to supplier instructions and training guidelines.
  • Regularly inspect and ensure all kitchen equipment is in excellent working order, reporting any faults promptly. Remove unsafe equipment from service as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and training to kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and high standards of service.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of service users, ensuring their well-being is at the forefront of all culinary operations.
  • Continuously pursue professional development opportunities by engaging in performance reviews and attending relevant training sessions.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in a similar role, ideally within a care home or catering environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs, including special diets.
  • Proven culinary expertise with the ability to deliver meals of the highest standard.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills to manage supplies, orders, and kitchen staff effectively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Dedication to the welfare and well-being of service users.
